Mitch Woods and his Rocket 88s have carried the flame of American blues for two decades. Drawing inspiration from the great jump ‘n’ boogie figures of the late 1940s and early ‘50’s, they have breathed new life into the music that gave rise to rock ‘n’ roll. Woods founded the group based on the bands of Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, Joe and Jimmy Liggins, Amos Milburn and Roy Milton, who jumped, danced, squealed and honked, pumped and stomped. Adding to this legacy a good dose of New Orleans rhythm ‘n’ blues, a unique piano playing style and some playful lyrics of their own, Woods and his Rocket 88 have forged a style they call “rock-a -boogie”.
