Saxorama – Los Saxos del Averno
Adrián Costa vocals and guitar, Chavi Ontoria keyboards and backing vocals, Dani Niño baritone sax, Diego Jiménez tenor sax, Luis Verde alto sax, Miguel Benito “PT” drums.
Straight from the bowels of the underworld you can hear the echo of this demonic sax combo who have been blowing like hell ever since the release of their debut album ‘Roasted Sinner’ (2017). Now they have three more singles – ‘Voodoo Shoes’, ‘Devil Inside’; plenty of concerts and awards – AIE, Girando por Salas, MIN awards, etc.; and a legion of followers. Radio personality Charlie Faber (Radio 3 – RNE) called one of their releases a “wonderful single from the first note: fresh and infectious, yet retro.” Other leading programmes, such as ‘The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show’ (BBC 6), have played their music and two of their songs appear in the Netflix series ‘Valeria’. Meanwhile, Ruta 66 wrote that “one of the most in-demand metal sections in rock,” had decided “to make the demonic leap to scattering sulphur alone”. The group’s sound takes the initial ingredients of 1950s r & b to cook up their own songs. Their style is a kind of cavernous r & b, seared with Latin touches and big helpings of rock that will burn up the audience’s dancing shoes. You may have enjoyed their work as a wind section for Julián Maeso, Pájaro, The Limbos, Vinila Von Bismark and other artists. However, you’ll never sample the true flames of Avern until you hear them on their own.
