A trumpeter from Sweden (Anders Bergcrantz) and a saxophonist from Poland (Sylwester Ostrowski) – two countries with their own glorious jazz traditions – co-lead this group that also brings together musicians from other places, including Barcelona (Albert Bover). The Bergcrantz-Ostrowski Unit is a top-class sextet which, according to its leaders, plays an “infectious groove”, with a “cross-cultural” base that produces jazz of “epic proportions”. They summarise their style as a blend of jazz with elements from the Scandinavian tradition and classical music. Ostrowski is known for his work with Bobby Watson, Deborah Brown and Wynton Marsalis; Bergcratz, for continuing the style of people like Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan and Woody Shaw. Top-class European and world jazz at the Jamboree.
