SYNCOPATED SISTERS # 3 in Barcelona
- Female musician residency 2025
Organized by Syncopation Society – a music collective from Berlin – & Storyville Cultural Association – a dance school based in Barcelona
Part of the Swinging Europe Network and co-funded by the European Union
Our GOAL is to strengthen the presence and visibility of women in the music business and on stage. This residency aims to connect, exchange, and make music together in a rare situation: an all-female band.
SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Workshop on playing traditional jazz by musician Angela Standberg.
The workshop will focus on some of the main traits of traditional jazz: collective improvisation, the role/groove of each instrument, and how to bring your musical ideas into arrangements that are authentic to the style.
FOR:
Feminist musicians / FLINTA* based in Europe
Experienced and professional musicians / FLINTA*
This will also be an opportunity to meet talented women from all over Europe and share a unique four-day experience in Barcelona.
FLINTA* is a German abbreviation for “Frauen, Lesben, Intergeschlechtliche, nichtbinäre, trans und agender Personen,” meaning women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender individuals. The asterisk represents all non-binary gender identities. To explicitly include queer individuals, the term FLINTAQ is sometimes used, expanding the FLINTA acronym. It is used to designate spaces and events without cisgender men.
