Walter “El Chino” Laborde
He is the voice of contemporary tango in Buenos Aires. Actor, singer, author, and an emblematic figure of the underground tango revival in the 21st century. For him, Tablao de Tango is in his DNA, as he comes from a pure-blooded tanguero family.
Franco Luciani
An extraordinary harmonica player and exceptional improviser. Equally at ease with Piazzolla’s works as with a tribute to Toots Thielemans, Luciani is inventive in both folk and tango. This heir to Hugo Díaz brings tango closer to blues like no one else.
Raúl Kiokio
A guitarist with one of the most unique styles in today’s tango scene. With a completely unorthodox training, his playing bears a highly original signature. Based in Spain, he is the regular accompanist of harmonica player Franco Luciani.
A table, some chairs, a bottle of wine, and glasses… three great soloists gathered around a master of the guitar. Pure tango.
Far from the ‘tango for export,’ the glitter, and the spectacular flourishes, the performers —an exceptional gathering of Argentine soloists— weave a poetic tale of the underworld with their voices, harmonica, and guitars.
The Tablao de Tango is an exceptional meeting of Argentine soloists in a live, heartfelt gesture. It evokes the memory of how tango was played before the 1920s: spontaneously, without sheet music, allowing space for inspiration and connection. The artists call upon their poetic accomplices and the legendary figures of tango, such as Troilo, Gardel, Goyeneche, and Piazzolla. These absent yet ever-present figures are invited to the Tablao table as if to a family meal.
