The Monk was born in 2014 in La Floresta as a power trio—keyboard, bass, and drums—playing instrumental music with styles like funk with hints of rock and Latin music. Later, different musicians with more eclectic artistic contributions joined the band: from pop to jazz, passing through hip-hop. Currently, The Monk has a lineup of eight musicians and a repertoire of original songs, with nods to their favorite artists such as Vulfpeck, The Meters, Hiatus K., Mars, Jackson, and “other rhythm addicts, bold harmonies, and powerful sound,” they explain. Enemies of “flat and repetitive music,” they aim to excite, stimulate, and surprise the audience. They confess their admiration for live performances and making their shows a real party. Indeed, they introduce themselves as follows: “We are a daring, fun, and revolutionary band, destined to leave our mark on the history of music.”
