Just over ten years ago, German saxophonist Tobias Meinhart saw the dream of any self-respecting jazz musician come true: travelling to New York to try his luck on the always highly competitive scene of the Big Apple. Meinhart not only stayed, he succeeded. Today he is a regular on the programmes of clubs like the legendary Blue Note, Birdland and 55. He is also on first-name terms with leading figures like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ingrid Jensen and Aaron Goldberg and even leads projects such as Berlin People, which brings together young musicians from the Berlin and New York scenes. The result is an excellent, solid approach, full of energy. Berlin People not only establishes a fruitful link between two of the world’s most vibrant cities, but also confirms Tobias Meinhardt as one of the great figures of the European diaspora in New York.
