Virtuoso and with exquisite taste, Xavi Torres from Tarragona is undoubtedly one of the great pianists of his generation. In fact, last year he released one of the best albums of 2023, ‘Quarantine Songs’ (Dox Records), conceived during the pandemic confinement. For a month, Torres wrote, “as if it were an exercise,” he explains, one piece per day. The purpose of that “exercise” was to keep the flame of energy and creativity burning. The result is music linked to the reality of the moment “and its struggles,” he adds, “but that speaks for itself,” he clarifies. ‘Quarantine Songs’ collects a series of themes that express different feelings: a journey from sadness to hope, from nostalgia to gratitude. At the Jamboree, where he will present the album after premiering it at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam – the city where he lives – and at the Vitoria Jazz Festival, he will play in a trio with two excellent musicians: Reinier Elizarde ‘El Negrón’ and Andrew Pitarch
