SUMMARY:Laura Marchal
DESCRIPTION:Laura Marchal vocals \nFlamenco singer Laura Marchal has been described as possessing a deep\, sweet voice full of nuance. Her style overflows with emotion\, evoking the wisdom of traditional flamenco singing while remaining unmistakably contemporary. Her musical universe spans a wide range of influences rooted in flamenco\, yet also reaches into folk\, copla\, and Andalusian song\, with touches of jazz and singer-songwriter sensibilities. SUMMARY:Rajery + Raúl Rodríguez
DESCRIPTION:Rajery valiha & vocals · Raúl Rodríguez flamenco tres & vocals \nIn a global context marked by identity-driven retreat and growing distrust of the other\, Mandry Ve? champions the power of music as a universal language and a space for cultural encounter. The project was born as part of the Madagascar Flamenco Week\, organized by the Honorary Consulate of Spain in Antananarivo\, with the aim of building an authentic artistic dialogue between flamenco and Malagasy musical tradition\, moving away from superficial collaborations and embracing listening\, respect\, and shared creation. \nThe project brings together Rajery\, master of the valiha and a leading figure in Malagasy music\, and Raúl Rodríguez\, anthropomusician\, researcher\, and creator of the flamenco tres. Their first meeting in 2019 confirmed an exceptional musical and human connection\, giving rise to a collaboration that\, after several years of development\, came to fruition in the recording of this album. \nMandry Ve? brings together eleven compositions that weave traditional songs and original works together\, naturally merging the rhythms and sounds of flamenco and Malagasy music. More than an album\, it is a bridge between two seemingly distant worlds\, demonstrating that creativity\, mutual respect\, and art can break down borders and open new horizons for coexistence and imagination. A future yet to be written\, shaped by Rajery and Raúl Rodríguez — a future we will build together.

SUMMARY:Quiet Colors
DESCRIPTION:Joanna Kucharczyk piano and vocals · Marcelo Woloski percussion \nQuiet Colors is the duo formed by Polish singer and pianist Joanna Kucharczyk and Argentine percussionist Marcelo Woloski\, who have been based in Barcelona for the past three years. “It’s a fascinating musical universe\,” explains Kucharczyk. “This classic voice-and-piano combination becomes so special because of the percussion — or perhaps I should say the orchestral percussion — performed by Marcelo. Thanks to his immense imagination and creativity in orchestration and arranging\, each song has its own universe.” \nAccording to Woloski\, “Quiet Colors is a collaboration born out of the love and admiration Joanna and I have for each other\, both humanly and musically. She brings together a beautiful combination of subtlety\, groove\, and musicality that makes anything she plays feel special.” \nA duo that\, in their own words\, is “minimalistic and rich at the same time\,” and above all “pays tribute to storytelling and lyrics as the essence and center of the songs.”

SUMMARY:Lela Soto
DESCRIPTION:Lela Soto vocals · Rubén Martínez guitar \nLela Soto is one of the most prominent flamenco singers of her generation and one of the genre’s most distinctive voices. She stands out for her vocal tone\, sensitivity\, pitch accuracy\, strong sense of rhythm\, and unmistakable personality—qualities that have established her as one of the key figures renewing flamenco from its roots. Her debut album\, El fuego que llevo dentro\, has brought a breath of fresh air to the genre and has been described as “a dazzling debut that exceeded all expectations” (Mondo Sonoro). \nAn intimate concert\, voice and guitar\, in the close setting of Jamboree’s Room 3.Unmissable.

SUMMARY:María Marín
DESCRIPTION:María Marín vocals and guitar \n“In a dream you came to me” sings María Marín in one of the versions from her latest album\, Las tres Marías (echoing Enrique Morente). Dreamlike imagery is undoubtedly part of the powerful poetic universe of this truly singular artist—a singer and guitarist capable of captivating audiences with a recital that includes poets such as San Juan de la Cruz\, Miguel Hernández\, and Federico García Lorca\, alongside music by Luys de Milán\, Fernando Sor\, Los Chichos\, Tom Waits\, and Franz Schubert (her whistled Ave María is unforgettable). \n“In today’s flamenco landscape —wrote the insightful Pedro G. Romero— nothing sounds like María Marín. That brilliance must be recognized when you look toward the horizon. There is no posturing here\, no reliance on family lineages\, no false claims to authenticity. What there is\, is flamenco. Everything that has made flamenco great. Flamenco\, before and after flamenco.”

SUMMARY:TRÍADA
DESCRIPTION:Diamela Spina vocals & percussion · Aylen Reynoso guitar · Julia Percowicz vocals \nRemember this name: Tríada. And remember these artists: Diamela Spina (percussion and vocals)\, Aylen Reynoso (guitar) and Julia Percowicz (vocals). We are going to discover them in the intimate setting of Jamboree\, and we are convinced that their journey through Latin American music\, folk traditions and singer-songwriter repertoire\, brought to life through vocal arrangements and an intimate approach that reimagines every song\, points to a brilliant future. \nIn 2023\, this Argentine female trio began independently recording covers and sharing videos of their performances online\, quickly reaching millions of views and a global audience. As their popularity grew\, they decided to adopt the name Tríada\, inspired by the musical language of the three notes that form a chord and by the sense of sisterhood between three people. \nThey have just signed with Verve Records (home\, among others\, to Billie Holiday)\, backed by a creative team that believes wholeheartedly in them. In October\, they will release their debut studio album\, featuring 12 original songs. This marks the group’s definitive transition from covers to original material and establishes a distinctive artistic identity within the new Latin American music scene. \nAs we said: we are going to discover them in the intimate setting of a club. A unique opportunity.

SUMMARY:Billy McHenry & Ethan Iverson
DESCRIPTION:Bill McHenry tenor sax · Ethan Iverson piano \nI have admired Ethan Iverson and Bill McHenry for more than a quarter of a century. In fact\, ever since I discovered them on Live at Smalls (Fresh Sound)\, alongside the great Reid Anderson and Jeff Williams. Ever since then\, I have kept them in my personal drawer of unique and unpredictable sources of inspiration. Above all\, because they are creators who naturally shy away from obvious solutions. \nMcHenry\, for example\, has always distanced himself from clichés (including obvious post-bop) with an originality that never becomes extravagant\, and with no need to include anything unusual. Iverson\, for his part\, always moves forward with a formal nakedness and deceptively simple approach that can make even the oldest tune sound radically modern. And together\, when they engage in dialogue\, they create a conversation that transcends the exhibitionism of solos. Everything\, at every moment\, is placed at the service of the music. \nI can’t wait to find out the setlist. First of all\, because of McHenry’s particular skill with repertoire\, and his very special personality\, as enigmatic as it is amusing. But also because of Iverson’s connections and curiosity about the history of music\, and his ability to identify unexpected relationships between composers\, styles\, and different ways of understanding art. In fact\, for many people – myself included – Iverson is a true reference point for understanding where we are and where we come from. \nBringing Bill McHenry and Ethan Iverson together is not just a good idea. I would say it is a deliberate provocation designed to make things happen (I always say it: one of the essences of a festival). And I have no doubt that quite a few things will happen at this concert that we will always remember. \n– Josep Mestres\, Jazzucrist

SUMMARY:Marta Robles i Alicia Grillo
DESCRIPTION:Marta Robles guitar · Alicia Grillo guitar \nMarta Robles and Alicia Grillo\, guitarists of Las Migas\, present a truly special format: a duo born from the desire to explore new ways of communicating through the guitar. In the intimate setting of Jamboree\, Robles and Grillo will recreate the universe of Las Migas from an instrumental perspective. Melodies\, rhythms\, and silences become the vehicles through which they convey the messages at the heart of the band’s songs: freedom\, identity\, feminine strength\, travel\, and the search for one’s own voice. \nAs the artists themselves explain\, the concert is conceived as a shared experience. They engage in conversation with the audience\, reveal the stories behind some of the pieces\, encourage participation\, and create moments of attentive listening that show how a story can also be told without words. The repertoire combines Las Migas compositions\, works from the Spanish classical tradition\, flamenco pieces\, and original works by Robles\, creating an evocative journey that brings together tradition\, contemporary creation\, and emotion. \nMore than a concert\, it is a conversation between two guitars and the audience—an intimate and vibrant experience where music becomes a universal language\, capable of crossing borders and connecting cultures and people.

SUMMARY:Belén Bandera i Carla Motis
DESCRIPTION:Belén Bandera vocals · Carla Motis guitar · Horacio Fumero double bass · David Xirgu drums \nSinger Belén Bandera and guitarist Carla Motis return to the festival with a jazz proposal they describe as “singular and full of sensitivity\, presented in an exceptional quartet format for this unique occasion at the Barcelona Jazz Festival”. \nThey are joined\, in an intergenerational dialogue that offers a vivid portrait of jazz in our scene\, by double bassist Horacio Fumero and drummer David Xirgu\, two unquestionable references in Catalan jazz. \nTheir sound\, as they explain themselves\, “starts from a repertoire rooted in the most traditional jazz and reinvents it through a young\, fresh\, and energetic perspective”.  A quartet that undoubtedly promises a magical and warm December night.

SUMMARY:Sara Lilu i Alesander Peña
DESCRIPTION:Sara Lilu vocals · Alesander Peña guitar \nWe first met Canarian vocalist Sara Lilu and Cantabrian guitarist Alesander Peña when they were students at the Conservatori del Liceu\, where they met in their first year – both scholarship recipients of the Ferrer Music Foundation – and soon began playing together as a duo. In 2024\, they released their first album together\, My Blue Heaven\, and now\, having established themselves as two key figures in Barcelona’s young music scene\, they are preparing their second recording. \nAn intense\, beautiful duo\, with arrangements that are as sophisticated as they are natural to listen to\, Lilu and Peña are two names worth keeping a close eye on. We have previously welcomed them to the festival as members of other ensembles (Lilu\, for example\, was the vocalist in one of the first line-ups of the Liceu Jazz Grup led by Bill McHenry)\, but they now make their debut as co-leaders of this exquisite duo. \nIf you don’t know them yet\, please let yourself be surprised.

SUMMARY:Lucía Fumero
DESCRIPTION:Lucia Fumero piano and vocals · Borja Ruiz electronics · Juan R. Berbín percussion \nLa naissance de la mer is perhaps Lucia Fumero’s most personal project. It is an exploration of memories and the future\, and of the connections between them\, through a style that has been described as Modern Obscure Music (whose acronym\, MOM\, we do not believe is coincidental). \nAccording to the promotional notes accompanying the resulting EP\, these sounds are “deep explorations of a distillation of intimacy.” Joined by Borja Ruiz and Juan R. Berbín\, Fumero presents deeply moving music\, filled with tenderness and mystery and\, we might dare say\, with questions that do not need to be answered. \nDedicated to the memory of her mother and to her son\, Fumero invites listeners on a journey that encourages experiencing reality “with kindness\,” while also “embracing life with compassion and a sense of slowness.”

SUMMARY:Carolina Alabau i Èlia Bastida amb Òscar Alabau i Marc López: Something New
DESCRIPTION:Carolina Alabau piano & vocals · Èlia Bastida violin & vocals \nSpecial guests: Òscar Alabau cello · Marc López flamenco guitar \nCarolina Alabau and Èlia Bastida performed one of their first concerts as a duo at our festival. Now\, eight years later\, they reunite to continue their musical journey together and expand their sound with a new project. \nBoth the artists and their music have evolved\, and this renewed dialogue will be presented at Jamboree through brand-new compositions and arrangements\, joined by two outstanding guests: flamenco guitarist Marc López\, who has accompanied them since the very beginning\, and cellist Òscar Alabau\, principal player with the orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu\, who has recently been entrusted with the honour of preserving and performing on a cello that once belonged to Pau Casals. \nThe concert is titled Something New\, a composition by the duo that perfectly reflects this fresh perspective on the joint project of Alabau and Bastida. \nAn evening of colour and subtlety at Jamboree.

SUMMARY:Thana Alexa & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Thana Alexa vocals & electronics \nSpecial Guests: Shai Maestro piano · Christos Rafalides vibraphone · Antonio Sánchez drums \n“A jazz singer with a global perspective\,” wrote The New York Times about Thana Alexa\, a vocalist born in New York but of Croatian heritage\, multilingual and versatile across multiple languages and styles\, as well as co-founder and musical director of the Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival in Croatia. \nWe saw her in 2024 as the vocalist of Antonio Sánchez’s Bad Hombre project during our celebration of International Jazz Day on Passeig de Gràcia (this year she returned as a special guest with Quiet Colors)\, but we now have the opportunity to present her at the festival for the first time as a bandleader\, with a brand-new project and several stellar guests (and\, surely\, a few more surprises). \nFor this very special night at Jamboree\, Thana Alexa will give us a preview of her upcoming album\, in which she reimagines music ranging from the Beatles and Björk to Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder. At Jamboree\, she tells us\, the idea is to recreate the intimacy of these duets\, enriched with vocal loops and electronic effects. An intense night of jazz among friends awaits us\, right in the heart of Barcelona.
