Each concert is built around improvisation\, dialogue between the musicians and the rhythmic richness of Cuban tradition\, offering a modern\, elegant experience that remains deeply connected to its roots. \nGastón Joya is one of the most prominent Cuban double bassists of his generation and a leading figure in Afro-Cuban jazz and Latin jazz. He has collaborated with Chucho Valdés\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Joe Lovano\, Sting and Buena Vista Social Club\, performing at major international festivals and theatres. Habana Abierta made a generation. \nIn the late 1990s\, in a Havana marked by scarcity and isolation\, a group of musicians decided that the only way to survive was to sing about everything: hunger\, humor\, heartbreak\, the raft that never set sail\, and the one that did. From this came a sound that blended son with rock\, trova with guaracha\, and nostalgia with a distinctly Cuban sense of irony. That sound became known as Habana Abierta\, and it forever changed the way several generations of Cubans — both on and off the island — understood their own identity. \nNow\, after years of following separate paths\, Habana Abierta is coming together on stage once again. And this time\, in Barcelona. \nHummo Productions presents this concert as part of a larger project: to reunite and rekindle the legacy of a collective that never truly ceased to exist\, even as its members took different geographical paths.
