SUMMARY:Jim Snidero Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Jim Snidero Quartet – The Essence of Contemporary Hard Bop\nJim Snidero alto sax · Olivier Truchot piano · Ignasi González Tejada double bass · Valentín Jam drums \nGrammy Award-winning alto saxophonist\, composer and author Jim Snidero embodies the uniqueness and appeal of jazz. Acclaimed as an alto sax virtuoso (DownBeat)\, with an astonishing improvisational ability (The Guardian) and a rich\, pure alto sax sound (Stereophile)\, he has amassed more than 16 million streams on Spotify and Apple Music\, delivering acoustic jazz of the highest quality\, including his 2021 album Live at the Deer Head Inn (Savant)\, which received a five-star review in DownBeat magazine. In 2024\, Jim Snidero reached the top of the jazz world\, ranking among the five best alto saxophonists in DownBeat magazine’s prestigious international critics’ poll. \nRaised in Camp Springs\, Maryland\, just outside Washington\, D.C.\, Snidero fell in love with jazz during his teenage years\, studying with jazz greats Phil Woods and David Liebman\, and later attending the University of North Texas\, where he joined the renowned One O’Clock Lab Band. After arriving in New York in 1981 at the age of 23\, Snidero made his mark on the jazz world by joining Brother Jack McDuff’s band\, recording two albums with the jazz legend. This marked the beginning of numerous notable collaborations as a sideman\, including The Mingus Big Band\, Eddie Palmieri\, Toshiko Akiyoshi\, Frank Wess\, Sting\, Frank Sinatra and Brian Lynch (winning a Grammy as a guest soloist)\, among many others. \nSnidero established himself as a recording leader with On Time (Toshiba/EMI\, 1984)\, the first of 25 acclaimed albums he would record under his own name. One of his early milestones was Blue Afternoon (Criss Cross\, 1989)\, considered one of the greatest jazz albums of all time in The Penguin Jazz Guide: The History Of The Music In The 1001 Best Albums. His album Strings (Milestone\, 2003/Savant\, 2022)\, which he composed and arranged for a string ensemble and which the San Francisco Guardian described as a “masterpiece”\, is also considered one of the finest recordings in the genre. \nFor the past 15 years\, Snidero has been part of the prestigious Highnote/Savant label\, earning him a place for several years among the leading international critics featured in DownBeat magazine’s critics’ poll. Highlights from his Savant catalogue include the acclaimed album Far Far Away with Kurt Rosenwinkel\, Project K with Dave Douglas\, and the aforementioned Live at the Deer Head Inn. \nIn 1996\, Jim Snidero revolutionized jazz education by writing the first of three books in the Jazz Conception series (Advance)\, establishing himself as the best-selling jazz author of his generation. He later continued his work with The Essence of the Blues (2018) and The Essence of Bebop (2020)\, considered a masterpiece of jazz education. He is a professor at The New School and has been a visiting professor at Indiana University and Princeton University.

Everything Yes is powered by genuine friendship. Their music blends jazz\, funk\, gospel\, progressive rock\, and improvisation into a sound that’s energetic\, playful\, and always evolving. Their live shows feel like a reunion of friends who trust each other enough to take risks and have fun doing it. \nAs they continue touring and building their audience\, Everything Yes stays rooted in the same foundation that began it all: creativity\, openness\, and saying “yes” to the moment.

SUMMARY:Cicle John Coltrane: Dion Hoorn i Casey-Joan Whyte
DESCRIPTION:Dion Hoorn alto saxophone · Casey-Joan Whyte violin · Masa Kamaguchi bass · Stephen Keogh drums \nThis group\, co-led by Casey-Joan Whyte and Dion Hoorn—two young musicians of remarkable talent (aged 18 and 22\, respectively)—shows that jazz is more alive than ever. Casey\, who is also a classical violin soloist\, has performed violin concertos with orchestra on numerous occasions\, including Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3 and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. In the jazz field\, she improvises at the highest level.Dion Hoorn has an impressive technique\, executes lines with millimetric precision\, and plays with great energy\, especially on the alto saxophone. He is also an excellent bassist. Both compose their own music\, part of which will be performed tonight\, but the focus will be on the music and spirit of John Coltrane. Music is not limited by time\, geography\, or race. It points toward something that transcends divisions.

SUMMARY:KUHN FU
DESCRIPTION:Christian Kühn guitar & composition · Sofia Salvo alto & baritone saxophone · Ziv Taubenfeld bass clarinet · Esat Ekincioglu bass · George Hadow drums \nLed by guitarist and composer Christian Kühn\, this multicultural band defies musical purity laws with fearless creativity and explosive stage energy. Kuhn Fu tears apart jazz conventions and rebuilds them into something wildly original. \nImagine Zappa meeting cabaret; surf sounds and metal riffs riding the Chattanooga Choo-Choo\, while Mingus\, The Who\, Stravinsky and Moondog act as spiritual godfathers. With Kuhn Fu\, expect the unexpected. Just as the audience settles into a groove\, a sudden twist reshapes the entire sonic landscape. \nKuhn Fu stands for shock moments you fall in love with — absurdity\, humour\, and an almost otherworldly energy balanced between parody and deep artistic seriousness. \nFounded in 2012 in Groningen\, Netherlands\, the band features a fierce woodwind section and a powerhouse rhythm section. They have released six studio albums and two live recordings\, were nominated for the German Jazz Prize 2023 (Composition of the Year)\, and have performed over 400 concerts across 23 European countries. \n“Consistently and harmoniously\, the accomplished musicians combine anarchic wit with individual virtuosity\, while Kühn’s clever arrangements provide guardrails for their often breathtaking journey.” — FAZ\, Norbert Krampf \n“Furious urgency with the greatest apparent casualness\, intricate complexity with the greatest palatability — Kuhn Fu combines these phenomenally well.” — Frankfurter Rundschau \n“Organised chaos at its mightiest!” — Jazzwise (Cologne Jazzweek) \n“Kuhn Fu lives up to its martial name. The multicultural jazz ensemble brings enormous energy to the stage while demonstrating wonderful togetherness in music.” — Süddeutsche Zeitung \n“This is how jazz or improvisational music can sound today — risky and uncompromising. We bow!” — Jazz Podium Magazine (Top 3 Best Albums) \n“This double album deserves an audience beyond jazz specialists — and if Kuhn Fu performs near you: go!” — BR Culture Night

SUMMARY:Shortcuts - Courvoisier / Rothenberg / Waits
DESCRIPTION:Sylvie Courvoisier piano · Ned Rothenberg clarinet\, alt saxo & shakuhachi · Nasheet Waits drums \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNed Rothenberg (saxophone\, clarinet)\, Sylvie Courvoisier (piano)\, and Nasheet Waits (drums) — three of New York City’s leading improvisers over the past three decades — have come together to form Short Cuts\, a collectively led trio shaped by the progressive jazz tradition\, from Ornette Coleman to John Zorn\, while also drawing inspiration from modern chamber music and cross-cultural musical approaches. \nWith Short Cuts\, abstraction is balanced by a grounded\, earthy sensibility in the classic New York tradition. Experimental textures meet rhythmic depth\, harmonic sophistication fuels free-flowing lyricism\, and the music — entirely improvised — grooves and sings while continually steering clear of cliché. \n“It feels so natural to improvise with Ned and Nasheet” says Courvoisier. “They are both beautiful players\, and they both love grooves\, even in a freely improvised setting. Winds\, piano\, and drums also make for a relatively unusual trio. Without a bass player\, Ned and I have more room to explore the lower register\, while Nasheet gains greater freedom with his bass drum. And these guys love taking risks\, just as I do.” \nBorn and raised in Switzerland and based in New York for many years\, Courvoisier leads several ensembles\, including her trio with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Kenny Wollesen\, as well as Chimaera\, an electric and atmospheric project featuring guitarist Christian Fennesz. She also leads the new quartet Almathea with vibraphonist Patricia Brennan and maintains a long-standing duo with guitarist Mary Halvorson. Her adventurous duo with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith is set to release its debut recording later in 2025. \nNPR critic Kevin Whitehead memorably described her approach: “Some pianists approach the instrument like it’s a cathedral. Sylvie Courvoisier treats it like a playground.” \nRothenberg — a virtuoso on clarinet\, alto saxophone\, and the Japanese shakuhachi flute — has been acclaimed as a sonic innovator by DownBeat\, L.A. Weekly\, and The Boston Globe. The New York Times has praised the “near religious focus” of his solo performances\, and he has collaborated with artists including Evan Parker\, John Zorn\, Sainkho Namchylak\, and Katsuya Yokoyama. \nWriting in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung\, critic Manfred Pabst observed: “Other kinds of music might entertain you\, cheer you up\, or get your blood pumping\, but his clarifies the mind and throws the soul wide open.” \nFor many years\, Waits has been one of the most sought-after and influential drummers on the New York scene. Renowned for his rhythmic drive and imaginative subtlety\, he moves effortlessly between contemporary jazz and the avant-garde. His collaborators include Jason Moran\, Dave Holland\, and Christian McBride\, among many others\, and he is also a member of the long-running cooperative trio Tarbaby\, alongside pianist Orrin Evans and bassist Eric Revis. \nJason Moran has often highlighted Waits’s fire\, creativity\, and ability to elevate any musical situation. Jazzwise magazine has similarly praised the breadth of his creative range\, describing it as extending “from whispers to frenzy.” \nSo far\, Short Cuts has appeared at venues and events ranging from Austria’s Saalfelden Festival to the University of Mexico City\, and has also been featured on Mexican national television. The trio recorded its debut album in the spring of 2025\, with tours across South America following in November 2025 and a European tour planned for October 2026. \nDescribing the group’s unique dynamic\, Rothenberg explains: “Some bands rely on a unified sound\, but this band works through the interaction of three distinct sonic worlds\, both stylistically and sonically. Sylvie brings a classical sensibility\, while I bring more of a world-music perspective. That gives Nasheet the opportunity to explore a different vocabulary than he might in a more typical free-jazz trio. And for the audience\, it’s a bit like listening in on what we hope is an engaging and intimate conversation between three sympathetic artists.” — Bradley Bambarger

SUMMARY:Albert Vila Quartet feat Perico Sambeat
DESCRIPTION:Perico Sambeat alto saxophone · Albert Vila guitar · Umberto Odone drums · Abel Boquera organ \nGuitarist Albert Vila premieres his latest musical project in a quartet format\, a formation that takes the classic sound of the jazz organ trio as its starting point and expands its sonic horizons. The project is built around a fully original repertoire\, in which Vila explores the more rhythmic and groovy side of the genre\, organically integrating influences from soul and blues. \nFor this new direction\, the guitarist has surrounded himself with an outstanding lineup of musicians who ensure a top-level rhythm section: Abel Boquera on organ and Umberto Odone on drums\, both key figures and among the most in-demand musicians on the current Madrid scene. \nThe quartet is completed by the mastery of Perico Sambeat on alto saxophone\, whose international career and unique musical language bring unquestionable depth and solidity to the project.

SUMMARY:El Gavira
DESCRIPTION:Pablo Gavira guitar\, vocals · Gabriel Antonio Escurra drums \nEl Gavira is a natural expression of the nonconformity that defines Gen Z\, wrapped in a layer of irony\, sarcasm\, and timeless sensitivity. A particularly original and seemingly detached perspective\, with a bittersweet undertone—much like life itself. \nThe ten songs that make up his debut album\, Pus (2022)\, lay the foundation for this message\, always balancing between hope\, frustration\, and the absurd. \nMúsica Chiste\, Música Triste (2023) serves as the motto of a record where a blend of rock influences merges with pop-punk and noise-pop sounds. \nPlaza Bohemia (2026)\, his latest release\, draws a generational map with a deeper emotional background\, focusing on themes that mark a clear transition toward personal and artistic maturity. \nThis concert is standing and for individuals aged +18 years old.

They are the core unit that lived daily inside his Música Universal—the Maestro’s (the Campeão’s) practice of precise writing\, collective improvisation\, and fearless timbre exploration. \nThe programme spans multiple eras—classics\, rarities\, and recent works—performed in Hermeto’s own arrangements. The setlist is shaped show by show to celebrate the composer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and “sorcerer” who released more than 35 albums\, wrote over 10\,000 pieces\, and coined ideas such as Música Universal and Som da Aura. \nThe current line-up features:• Itiberê Zwarg (bass) — in the group since 1977\, a reference for the ensemble’s rhythmic and harmonic architecture.• Fábio Pascoal (percussion) — member since the late 1980s and recording director on all Hermeto albums since 1999.• André Marques (piano) — pianist and arranger with extensive international experience\, in the group since 1994\, and musical director of a Latin Grammy-winning big band project.• Ajurinã Zwarg (drums) — drummer\, composer\, and educator with long involvement in the group’s stage and educational projects.• Jota P. (saxes/flutes) — featured soloist on recent tours and recordings\, with a strong artistic voice of his own. \nOver the decades with Hermeto\, the members of Mothership have toured across all continents\, performing at major festivals and venues and extending the Maestro’s international recognition. Recent highlights include the Latin Grammy for Pra Você\, Ilza (2024)\, an album dedicated to the memory of Dona Ilza\, Hermeto’s wife. \nHaving travelled the world with the Campeão for so many years\, this is the group that best carries his stage language and keeps Música Universal alive. \nHermeto’s Mothership is both tribute and continuity: the musicians who toured the world with Hermeto and who\, with historical authority and their own voice\, continue to bring his musical vision to life on stage.

SUMMARY:Benjamin Herman trio ft Tomoaki Baba
DESCRIPTION:Benjamin Herman alto sax · Jimmi Hueting drums · Thomas Pol doublebass · Tomoaki Baba tenor sax \nInspired by Tokyo’s hyper-eclectic underground scene\, jazz saxophonist Benjamin Herman once again expands the boundaries of his musical universe with his new project The Tokyo Sessions. Together with Thomas Pol (double bass) and Jimmi Jo Hueting (drums)\, he creates a sonic landscape where acoustic jazz merges with driving electronics and samples. \nThe Tokyo Sessions was recorded in April 2025 at the iconic Studio Dede in Tokyo\, under the direction of engineer Akihito Yoshikawa. For these sessions\, Herman invited some of Japan’s most respected musicians\, including noise legend Otomo Yoshihide (guitar)\, tenor saxophonist Tomoaki Baba and trumpeter Shinpei Ruike. The album also features traditional Japanese wind instruments performed by Akihito Obama (shakuhachi) and Ko Ishikawa (shō). \nBack in the Netherlands\, Herman further developed the recordings with producer Jimmi Jo Hueting\, shaping them into a full-length album blending jazz\, no wave and free improvisation. A tribute to Japan’s multifaceted musical culture\, from underground jazz clubs to anime soundtracks and Japanese salon music. \nFor the tour presenting the new album\, the trio will be joined by special guest Tomoaki Baba\, one of Japan’s leading contemporary jazz saxophonists\, known for his album Electric Rider (Universal Music\, 2024) and for his contribution to the soundtrack of the animated film Blue Giant.
