Antonio Farao piano, Pau Sala doublebass and, Joan Casares drums.
Born in Rome in 1965, Antonio Farao is one of the great pianists on the international scene, a musician who stands out for his sensitivity as an interpreter and improviser. His style is unique: virtuoso, recursive, energetic, magnetic and with extraordinary rhythmic ability. Farao was born into a family of artists and grew up listening to the jazz greats. Influenced by Oscar Peterson, Errol Garner, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Monk, Jarrett and others, he trained as a jazz musician and in 1998 won the prestigious Martial Solal competition. Since then, he has worked with André Ceccarelli, Daniel Humair, Gary Bartz, Lee Konitz, Steve Grossman, Richard Galiano, John Abercrombie, Toots Thielemans, Joe Lovano… the list of celebrities is immense. Solo, he has recorded albums such as ‘Thorn’ (Enja, 2001, with Jack Dejohnette, Chris Potter and Drew Gress), ‘Far Out’ (Cam, 2003, with Bob Berg) and ‘Evan’ (Cristal/Jando, 2012 , with Joe Lovano). Other accolades include those of Kenny Kirkland—”the best young pianist I’ve heard in years”—and Herbie Hancok: “He’s not only a good pianist, but an excellent one.”
