Reptilian Mambo’s approach could be defined as a crazy mix of genres: from mambo to free-jazz, via hardcore, free improvisation, Latin-jazz and progressive metal. It’s a style the group itself calls ‘mambocore’. Created and led by the producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Andrés Rojas, ‘El Pricto’, Reptilian Mambo has a series of musicians highly active on the Barcelona and Valencia free improvisation scene. This has a considerable influence on the techniques and transgressions in sound that characterise their concerts. With the current line-up, Reptilian Mambo explore the exotic world of the record ‘Mambo’ (Capitol Records, 1954), by Yma Sumac, and make it their own. The result is a new, reptilian mambo, which, through the voice of singer Ilona Schneider, achieves a new musical and communicative dimension.
