JOE SMITH TRIO - Jamboree Jazz

Concert of the Festival Grec Ciutat program.

Bill McHenry sax, Masa Kamaguchi double bass, Joe Smith drums.

Despite more than 10 years since he left Barcelona to live in Berlin, the American Joe Smith left a mark on our city like few others. Known for introducing unique methods of composition from instant music schemes, Smith created the long-awaited Asociación Libre Orkestra in Robadors (in the Raval).
Born in Illinois and trained in New York, he has collaborated in others with Guillermo Klein, Gorka Benitez, Chris Lightcap or Jorge Rossy. Also with Bill McHenry and Masa Kamaguchi, with whom on this occasion he will present his latest works as a trio.

The young guitarist from Geneva, Louis Matute, is a musician recognized for his talent as an interpreter and composer. He also stands out for his creative facet, and for his creative personality, present in his latest works, ‘How Great This World Can be’ (2020) and ‘Our Folklore’ (2022), with numerous distinctions from critics. At the Jamboree he will arrive with a new project, Louis Matute Large Ensemble, a group of “variable geometry,” he assures, with Latin reminiscences and a search for the soundscape based on harmonic work and, above all, complicity with his fellow musicians.
