Alex Hamburger flute & voice · José Luiz Martins piano & keyboards · Tyrone Allen bass · Eliza Salem drums
For the past decade, flutist, vocalist, and composer Alex Hamburger has been shaping her own musical path. Her debut album And She Spoke gave voice to female poets and composers, while her acclaimed sophomore release, What If?, blends acoustic and electric textures to explore transformation and perception with a distinctive sound.
Her music has been praised by All About Jazz, Jazzthing, and Bandcamp for its “ability to transform emotions into captivating melodies,” allowing listeners to “immerse themselves within the blurred lines and harmonious coexistence of light and dark, ultimately reminding us of the interconnectedness of our shared human experience.”
Alex has toured across the U.S., Europe, and South America with her own project and as a sidewoman for numerous artists. Most recently, she co-produced Brazilian pianist José Luiz Martins’ Odyssey Mixtape, winner of the 2025 DCJazzPrix.
She remains deeply connected to the DC music community as a member of the GRAMMY Recording Academy DC chapter, part of the 2022 Strathmore Artist in Residence class, founder and producer of My Body, My Festival—a fundraiser for the DC Abortion Fund—and Managing Director of CapitalBop, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting, preserving, and presenting jazz in DC.
