HABANA ABIERTA IN BARCELONA: A rendezvous with the Cuba that never gave up singing

Some bands make songs. Habana Abierta made a generation.
In the late 1990s, in a Havana marked by scarcity and isolation, a group of musicians decided that the only way to survive was to sing about everything: hunger, humor, heartbreak, the raft that never set sail, and the one that did. From this came a sound that blended son with rock, trova with guaracha, and nostalgia with a distinctly Cuban sense of irony. That sound became known as Habana Abierta, and it forever changed the way several generations of Cubans — both on and off the island — understood their own identity.
Now, after years of following separate paths, Habana Abierta is coming together on stage once again. And this time, in Barcelona.
Hummo Productions presents this concert as part of a larger project: to reunite and rekindle the legacy of a collective that never truly ceased to exist, even as its members took different geographical paths. It is a unique opportunity to reconnect with songs that became the soundtrack of an entire era, performed by the people who created them.
For those who grew up with these songs, it will be a reunion. For those who never knew them, it will be a discovery of one of the most honest chapters in contemporary Cuban music.
