Philip Lassiter — Funk with Global Reputation and Orchestral Excellence

Rooted in Texas funk, Alabama gospel, New Orleans jazz, and Nashville soul, Philip Lassiter is one of the most in-demand arrangers and trumpeters in contemporary music. An 11-time Grammy Award winner, his sound blends rhythmic muscle, harmonic sophistication, and a deep understanding of African American tradition brought into the present.

His career is marked by a key milestone: he was section leader and arranger for Prince & The New Power Generation, an experience that shaped his musical ethics and vision. As he puts it: “Prince’s work ethic was unprecedented… He wanted the best idea to win, not his own. Every moment became a lesson.” That calm, collaborative leadership remains at the core of his work.

Now based in Amsterdam, Lassiter has established himself as a go-to arranger and trumpeter for artists across R&B, pop, gospel, and hip hop, including Ariana Grande, Kirk Franklin, Jill Scott, Timbaland, Anderson .Paak, Roberta Flack, Cory Henry, and The Isley Brothers, among many others. His signature is unmistakable: horn sections that are precise, expressive, and always in service of the song.

Live, his experience is just as far-reaching. He has performed on stages such as Essence Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz, and Bonnaroo, as well as on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Each performance distills decades of Black music, reinterpreted with rigor, groove, and a contemporary sensibility.

Why shouldn’t you miss him?
Because Philip Lassiter embodies musical excellence in its purest form: heritage, discipline, and groove at the highest level, driven by the energy of someone who learned from the greats and continues to push the sound forward.
