Martín Laportilla bass · Lluc Casares saxo · Antonio Mazzei piano · David Xirgu drums · Juan Berbin percussion
Jaco Pastorius forever transformed the role of the electric bass. His way of playing elevated it into a melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic instrument at the same time, opening up a universe of possibilities that, even today, continues to inspire musicians around the world.
In this project, Martín Laportilla revisits emblematic compositions by Pastorius and explores his legacy from a contemporary perspective, bringing the tradition of electric jazz into dialogue with a personal and current voice.
The concert is conceived as a journey through some of Jaco’s most representative works, presented in arrangements specially created for this ensemble. Accompanied by a first-class group of musicians formed by Lluc Casares (saxophone), Antonio Mazzei (piano), David Xirgu (drums), and Juan Berbín (percussion), Martín Laportilla offers a personal interpretation of this repertoire, where the music alternates between moments of intimacy, creative risk, and collective energy, highlighting the expressive richness of the electric bass.
More than a recreation, the proposal aims to keep alive Jaco’s innovative spirit: his lyricism, his unmistakable groove, and his musical boldness. A tribute that celebrates his legacy from the present and shows how his influence continues to inspire new ways of understanding and expanding the possibilities of the electric bass.
