Simon Moullier Quartet — Modern Vibraphonism with Jazz Roots

Simon Moullier is an award-winning vibraphonist, composer, and arranger who has established himself as one of the most outstanding voices of his generation. Recognized by the Grammys as one of the emerging jazz artists to watch in 2023, he trained under figures such as Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Jimmy Heath at the Thelonious Monk Institute, and with Darren Barrett at Berklee. Moullier combines impressive technical mastery with deep musical sensitivity, evident in his collaborations with Gerald Clayton, Terri-Lyne Carrington, Ben Wendel, and the SFJAZZ Collective, as well as recordings with Mark Turner, Kendrick Scott, and Miguel Zenón.

As a bandleader, he has released five albums, including Elements of Light (2024), and has received accolades such as Rising Star Vibraphonist in DownBeat, 25 for the Future, Up-and-Comer of the Year in New York City Jazz Record, and recognition for his arranging work on Grammy-winning albums. His music, as Herbie Hancock notes, “is fresh, speaks to everyone. I had never heard anyone play the vibraphone like that.”

Moullier’s quartet presents an entirely original repertoire, featuring compositions written years ago but reimagined today with new life. Their pieces combine deep melodies and harmonies with a danceable pulse, rooted in swing and blues, shaded with impressionistic colors and Brazilian influences. The relationship between piano and vibraphone creates a fusion of timbres that almost feels like a third invisible instrument, reinforcing the unique character of their sound.

Active on the international circuit, Simon has performed at landmark clubs and festivals such as Village Vanguard, Blue Note Tokyo, Beijing, Jazz en Tête, Festival Radio France Montpellier, Chiapas Marimba Festival, and International Jazz Day in Havana and Saint Petersburg. He also teaches at institutions such as Berklee, USC, The New School, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, sharing his innovative approach and passion for improvisation and composition.

Why shouldn’t you miss him?
Because Simon Moullier turns every concert into a journey of technique, emotion, and exploration: vibraphone and piano merge to create contemporary jazz that is vibrant, elegant, and deeply expressive, where tradition and modernity coexist naturally.
