United by a shared sense of emptiness and a curious sonic synesthesia that blends their artistic universes into one, mariagrep and Mundo Prestigio have decided to become one in their first joint recording project: «Voy a pensar en ti».
Beyond the friendship and artistic affinity that have connected both projects for many years, the artist from Santiago de Compostela and the musicians from Vigo had previously collaborated on «Cogollito» (featured on mariagrep’s latest album) and «Superbuena» (a single released by Mundo Prestigio five years ago). It was only natural that their respective worlds would eventually come together in a formal project.
That project is this EP, which will be accompanied by a tour kicking off this spring and running at least until the end of the year. Its songs echo the influences of Clairo, Men I Trust, Elia y Elizabeth, Faye Webster, Susana Estrada and Khruangbin, among others.
But it is their groovy take on a new pop language, engaging in a dialogue with a kind of underground Lolita aesthetic, somewhere between the sexiest melodic pop of the 1970s and a subtle, acoustic psychedelia woven into the songs’ structures, that gives their music its particularly striking atmosphere of smoke and light, making them a truly distinctive presence on the Spanish alternative scene.
