Jowee Omicil saxes, clarinets, flutes, cornets, Rhodes, vocals
Joweee BasH! Omicil is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, masterfully handling saxophones, clarinets, trumpets, Rhodes, piano and flutes, moving fluidly between instruments and genres. Gospel, hip-hop, voodoo or traditional African rhythms, all can be found in his performances! A “musical polyglot” who you can’t fit into a single box – because he will shatter it!
Born in Montreal from Haitian immigrant parents, Jowee discovered music in his father’s church and began playing the saxophone at the age of 15. He studied at Berklee College of Music, and then in New York under the guidance of legends such as Ornette Coleman and Kenny Garrett, developing a bold style based on improvisation. He has shared the stage with Roy Hargrove, Branford Marsalis, Marcus Miller, Ibrahim Maalouf, Richard Bona, Pharoah Sanders, and was the master of ceremonies at Quincy Jones‘ 85th birthday at Montreux Jazz.
Jowee is a magnetic force, renowned for the way he transforms each concert into a captivating journey, guiding the audience through uncharted sonic territories with a joy borrowed from gospel pastors in the movies. You will leave this show refreshed and full of good energy!
Beyond music, Jowee BasH! Omicil appears in The Eddy (Netflix) by Damien Chazelle (La La Land), and plays Sammy Davis Jr. in Mr. Aznavour, while inspiring the next generation of musicians with his BasH!Akademy.
