Shuteen Erdenebaatar piano & compositions · Nils Kugelmann double bass · Amir Bresler drums · Jakob Manz saxophone
Not only did the sun rise when pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar released her debut Rising Sun a few years ago – her artistic vision did as well. Her concept was clear: to bring her classical past and jazz present, her Mongolian heritage and European aesthetic into harmony. She achieved this so compellingly that she received invitations to major festivals and concert venues internationally, as well as recognition with the German Jazz Award and Mongolia’s highest cultural honor, the Mungun Mod.
With Bright Folk, Shuteen Erdenebaatar continues her artistic journey, opening a new chapter after her internationally acclaimed debut. Known for her remarkable storytelling, she unfolds her lyrical compositions through her quartet featuring saxophonist Jakob Manz, bassist Nils Kugelmann, and drummer Amir Bresler, whose diverse backgrounds infuse every performance with energy and vibrant tension. After more than 150 concerts in the past two years, Erdenebaatar unveils a sound that radiates clarity, resilience, warmth, and an unwavering sense of hope. Drawing on memories of distance and belonging, reflection, and personal growth, her compositions transform profound stories into expressive, uplifting soundscapes that celebrate the strength within us – and the light we carry into the world.
