Toni Solà García tenor saxophone · Gerard Nieto Cunillera piano · Juan Ignacio González Tejada double bass and electric bass · Xavier Hinojosa López drums
With a long-standing career and eight albums as a bandleader, Toni Solà is one of the leading tenor saxophonists in the deeply-rooted jazz scene.
The repertoire of the Toni Solà Quartet draws, as usual, from the warmest side of jazz, rooted in its origins, with a strong blues influence that is present in every piece in one way or another, extending to hard-bop and soul jazz.
The common denominator is a constant tribute to powerful-sounding tenor saxophonists such as Dexter Gordon, Illinois Jacquet, Johnny Griffin, Gene Ammons, Stanley Turrentine, and Sonny Rollins, some of whose compositions are performed. The repertoire also includes swing classics, ballads, and several compositions by the bandleader.
