X Alfonso: Internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist
Award-winning instrumentalist, composer, performer and visual artist, X Alfonso has built a multifaceted career that positions him as one of the leading figures of contemporary Cuban art. Since the 1990s, he has enjoyed a successful career within the rock and pop-rock scene, blending ballads with elements of hip hop, electronic music and pop rooted in Afro-Cuban traditions.
He has performed on major international stages and appeared at renowned festivals such as Rock in Rio, WOMEX, SXSW, Roskilde, Contrapedal, Luminato and Havana World Music. His collaborations include work with artists such as Síntesis, Santiago Feliú, Descemer Bueno, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rick Wakeman, Bebe and Audioslave.
A four-time Latin Grammy nominee, he won the Latin Grammy in 2022 for his album Ancestros Sinfónico. His versatility has also led him to compose music for theatre, contemporary dance and film, earning the Goya Award for Best Original Score for the soundtrack of Habana Blues.
In 2006, he received the Latin Breakthrough Artist Award at Spain’s Music Awards, and in 2010 he was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for his artistic work with and for children. Since 2013, he has led the Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC), a groundbreaking transmedia cultural space recognized by TIME magazine in 2019 as one of the 100 greatest places in the world, bringing together emerging talents and established artists from multiple disciplines.
