Josep Suquet piano and compositions · Adrian Cunningham tenor sax, flute and clarinet · Adrià Pinto double bass · Rubén Bueno drums
Josep Suquet Quartet featuring Adrian Cunningham presents an expanded and renewed version of Supervival, a contemporary jazz project based on original compositions, a modern language, and a strong artistic identity.
This ensemble recently presented the project at the Costa Brava Jazz Festival to great critical and public acclaim. The repertoire consists of compositions by Josep Suquet and some arrangements by the same author, with a writing style that prioritizes narrative clarity, color, and emotional contour. The melodies act as a guiding thread, and the harmony moves between lyrical atmospheres and contemporary tensions; the rhythm integrates elements of modern jazz and neo-romanticism with influences from Mediterranean improvised music.
The core trio (piano, double bass, and drums) forms the foundation of the project, and the addition of internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist Adrian Cunningham (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) decisively expands the group’s timbral and expressive range. Cunningham’s presence adds an additional expressive dimension to the quartet, with contrasts of register and color that allow seamless transitions from introspective textures to moments of high collective intensity. The constant interaction between piano, double bass, drums, and winds is one of the central pillars of the project, reflecting a clear intention to build a cohesive group sound.
Supervival conceptually revolves around the human capacity for adaptation and creative transformation. The invented term refers not only to survival but also to the possibility of turning experience and challenge into artistic fuel. This idea is translated musically into shifting harmonic palettes and a constant balance between structure and spontaneity.
For Jamboree, the project offers an intense and intimate concert, with live energy, audience engagement, and the pleasure of shared improvisation.
